HSRU Postdoc Fellowship

The Alliance of Hispanic-Serving Universities (HSRU) has announced a new Postdoctoral Fellowship Cohort Program. The HSRU is made up of 22 research universities that are also designated as Hispanic-Serving Institutions, and the fellowship is intended to provide opportunities for postdocs at participating HSRU institutions. In addition to helping program participants prepare for tenure-track positions, the program will help fellows consider the challenges faced by students and faculty at research-intensive Hispanic-Serving Institutions and prepare for a career working with underrepresented students. Fellows will have an opportunity to visit another university in the HSRU.

UCSC can nominate two candidates for the fellowship. This program is open to anyone who is a continuing postdoctoral scholar with funding for next year. Priority will be given to applicants who are not already part of other professionalization networks.

If you are interested, please send a brief note introducing yourself to Rodrigo Lazo, UCSC’s director of HSRU Initiatives – rolazo@ucsc.edu by Jan. 13. He will also be able to answer any questions.

Nominated scholars must meet the following criteria:

  • Demonstrate a strong interest in pursuing a faculty career at a research-intensive Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI)
  • Provide evidence of a promising trajectory toward a successful tenure-track faculty career
  • Commit to participate in all components of the program

Eligibility and Qualifications

Scholars from all disciplines and research backgrounds are eligible to apply. We are particularly interested in candidates who seek to understand the barriers commonly faced by Latinx and other underrepresented students and the resulting equity gaps that can arise. Experience working with underrepresented students is preferred.

UCSC nominees must have at least one year remaining in the current postdoctoral position starting in fall 2025 (i.e., 2025-26).

Nominations

To be considered for a nomination, please send the following by Jan. 17:

CV and a statement with the following information:

1. Describe your postdoc program and the type of research that you do. Who is your mentor or supervisor and does your department or program provide professionalization support? How does this work relate to your aspirations in higher education?

2. Why are you interested in the HSRU fellowship, and how will it help you accomplish your career goals?

Nominated scholars will be asked to submit additional materials to the HSRU.
